Message from Managing Director

To ensure a secure data repository and uninterrupted delivery of high-quality information services, the 7th largest Uptime Certified Four-Tier Data Center in the world, built on 7 acres of land in Kaliakair High-Tech Park, Kaliakair, Gazipur, operates using Cloud Computing and G-Cloud technology. Currently, around 55 government and private organizations are being provided with cloud computing, cloud storage, data storage and backup, data security, and co-location services from this data center. To efficiently manage the data center, the Cabinet approved a proposal to establish “Bangladesh Data Center Company Limited (BDCCL)” on December 30, 2019. The company was officially registered on September 16, 2020. With an uptime of 99.995%, this data center is currently operated by trained and skilled personnel to ensure 24/7 services.

In the context of the Government of Bangladesh’s G-Cloud, cloud services are being provided to all government institutions from Oracle DRCC. The services offered from Oracle DRCC include Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). By using Oracle DRCC, the government could save large amount of foreign currency annually, as opposed to the expenses involved in purchasing Oracle database licenses for government institutions. Bangladesh has also established its first national cloud, “Meghna Cloud” using domestic technical manpower. This cloud was created using Open-Source Technology and can provide cloud services to both government and private institutions. There are plans to develop Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence platforms within this cloud service framework. The establishment of the “BDCCL Center of Excellence” will facilitate Academia-Industry Collaboration between the data center industry, universities and BDCCL.

Through the cloud services of the data center, customers are provided with a virtual machine along with a user ID and password, allowing them to securely access services from any location. In this case, customers do not need to purchase or maintain any hardware or software; they can simply use the internet or intranet to conveniently access e-services. If all government ministries, departments, offices and agencies opt for G-Cloud services from the Four-Tier Data Center, it could result in substantial foreign currency savings. Using the data center would help avoid the hassle and time consumption involved in purchasing hardware, software and other related equipment.

With a commitment to ensure continuous and secured information services, all officers and employees of Bangladesh Data Center Company Limited (BDCCL) are working diligently.
